A bit of a useless rant here and I’m drunk and lost on youtube once again... WTF do those youtubers talk about?? Talking about Vehicle Virgins, Salomandrin and so on...They wouldn’t be able to push a Peugeot 205 GTi anywhere near its limit and yet, they act like they can discuss about the specificity of different versions of Ferrari 488 (thanks to the spec sheets they’ve been given).
This has reached such level of ridiculous that... I don’t know... I’m just speechless.
My generation (or is it the one before mine? I’m 33) is freaking doomed.

Alex Roy ripped into the guy from vehicle virgins at some press event for a tire company over this exact thing. I thought it was a little harsh but probably due to happen sooober or later.

Agreed, these guys aren’t very fun to watch (nor are the magazine reviewers). Gimme my Hot Version and GT Channel!

Hey dont blame it on my generation
But we are all doomed, as a genx we place the blame on baby boomers and genY

I’m your age (1983) and no, we are not to blame. We never, ever are. By definition :)
Blame the boomers (=the locust generation) and the ‘everyone is a blogger/vlogger’ generation (young millennials?)

They are just bench-racing for views. Most people who are serious about driving don’t make good presenters or aren’t marketable. The best drivers are too busy driving to be youtubers.
Randy Pobst is an exception, but even he only occasionally appears in other people’s content.
How boring of a channel would it be if the presenter came on and told you to go out and get an old Miata and just start tracking the thing already.
The people buying a Ferrari or Lambo aren’t watching youtube to make their purchasing decisions and I doubt that they car what Motorweek or Car and Driver have to say about them either. The audience for those stories are us, the unwashed masses who dream about what in reality aren’t great cars.

Oh I don’t dream about this stuff... I dream about 288GTO and McLaren F1... But I drive awesome cars for a living and watching those guys pretend to know what they are doing is REALLY cringe worthy :)

As long as there have been cars, there have been clueless people talking loudly about them. The idiots are usually the loudest and easiest to find too.
But don’t give up hope for our generation yet, there are quite a few shows hosted by people roughly of our age (I’m also 33) that know what they’re talking about, or are willing to admit what they don’t know.

Yeah, it’s just sad... Not so much that they play wannabe-racecar driver or journalist, but that people actually listen to what they have to say... That’s what shock me the most.

HE is our only hope. I really like him simply because he genuinely doesn’T pretend to be what he is not.... That’s refreshing today.

Yeah but 20 years ago, those idiots didn’t have a plateform to voice their uneducated opinions... Let alone people listening to what they had to say...

Everyone can give him as much shit as they want to.
At the end of the day, he’s doing exactly what I’d do if I had a YouTube channel.

I quit watching many of those guys a couple of years ago when they made their “first time ever at a track video” after talking like authorities for hundreds of videos.
Why would they tell me about how the car understeers when really they just take terrible lines and don’t know anything about weight transfer.
![]() 02/27/2018 at 09:51 |

Goofy and geeky as fuck, but you can see he actually spent time to talk about what he is looking at... and when he drives the cars, he doesn’t pretend to review the capabilities of the cars.... he just shares his humble opinion on what he feel driving it. You know... how reviews should be done? :)

One mere video is enough a far as I’m concerned lol... :)
But yes you’re right... they have genuinely NO idea what they are talking about and it’s soooo frustrating to see them act as if they they do, getting people to listening to those idiots as if they were some sort of knowledgeable authority on the subject :)

There’s a LOT of people who will openly talk about stuff they don’t know much about, especially when they get views and money. Not just in the car “hobby” as I see it.
Most hobbies have these sorts of people attached to them, cars (and motocycles) are producing some obnoxious pricks, but I can assure you there’s worse out there (people into military vehicles for exemple).
Also, I’m 26, and I see this pattern in any generation, it’s just that younger people are sharing their dumbness on a whole other scale thanks to the web.

If you wanna stay relatively sane and rage less, it’d be good for you to avoid these channels like the plague. To me, people only watch them to live vicariously through them or they don’t know any better because they see the expensive cars and money and assume “this person knows their shit”.
When the mass exodus of rich and stupid youtubers happens, I’ll give everyone a bowl of popcorn to feast on. Honestly, if there was a way to block their channels so I couldn’t see or be recommended them, that’d make me happy.
Don’t even get me started on my personal experience with VV...

Salomondrin I don’t mind because he has a decent sense of humor about himself. He’s not afraid to make himself look stupid as long as it’s all in good fun.
The others though, I can’t stand them. Vehicle Virgins, thatdudeinblue, SubaruWRXFan (goes by another handle now), smurfinWRX, TJHunt. They’re all obnoxious and talk about being motivational and crap. It’s just nauseating to me. Then when you cut all that fluff out, there’s barely any talk about cars and even when there is it’s just all about useless things like what their friends are doing with cars.
The only reason I don’t mind Salomondrin trying to be motivational is because he’s the only one of them who was successful before YouTube. His channel is just for him to mess around with cars and share them. And maybe stroke his ego, but at least he has something worth watching.

This isn’t just about cars though, it’s society as a whole, internationally. Facebook (and similar) echochambers have enabled the owners of stupid opinions and conspiracy theories to find each other while stimulating even more extreme stupidity in the fringe. All while influencing the impressionable. The results are very visible. Anti-vax, Trump, westerners fighting for ISIS, you name it.

GenX here, millenials can’t match our angst and penchant for flannel. Yet millenials grew up with the internet. Enter stupid youtube.

I think they have an audience because they all talk so fast, so staccato-like, it’s really its own rhythm that seems to have penetrated the minds of many and make them listen, despite/regardless of the content of said words.
I don’t know, most of this stuff is unwatchable (RCR, Doug, and a few others exempted).

It’s definitely true that it’s easier for idiots to spout their idiocity, but it works the other way too. It’s easier for the unknown enthusiasts to become popular.
20 years ago, there weren’t very many car shows at all, let alone decent quality ones. I can’t remember very well, but there was probably Motor Trend TV, maybe an early version of the Powerblock... That’s about it. (Top Gear, Monster Garage, Biker Build Off all came in the early 00s)
Today we have Roadkill, Mighty Car Mods, Dirt Everyday, Regular Car Reviews, Matt Farrah, Chris Harris, and even smaller shows like Everyday Driver or Cars and Cameras. None of those shows would have had a chance 20 years ago.

Last I checked, Salomondrin made his money.
